There is so much corruption in China that the gold bullion held in their bank vaults doesn't mean much; so much is going to waste now (including the gold if it were released for military purposes). 2, In a war, the CCP would be trade blockaded, so gold does not help much if it can't trade with a peer industrial allies; it has none. 3. China is in a deep recession now and exchanging gold reserves for currency only inflates the RMB which decreases balance of trade (except for food and energy imports). Especially exports. 4. Buying food and petroleum is one thing. Getting it to a port in China without your ships being sunk by a hostile enemy during war is another. Calling the CCP's actions in world history as "contraversial" is an understatement. The party that Mao Zedong lead then inflicted himself like a virus on the population of 900 million (at the time) is still in power, being steered by a Mao-admiring revisionist.   3. Yes, the fake gold is a funny one. I already said it. Gold only immediately pays for fuel and food supplies, and not their debt, not even to dent it a bit. But during war, you can buy it internationally but you can't ship it. It gets sunk on the way and the PLAN do not have enough power and global reach to even think of winning a war against NATO.
