  1. Your model of US ICE car manufacturing from the 1890s was operating in a free market with minimal or no support from the US government until WW2. Massive subsidies were being supplied by the CCP to EV manufacturers from this technology inception, in an attempt to (temporarily) dominate the emerging EV mass production in China then the world, including over US companies like Tesla. That this strategy has failed is obvious, and now CCP China Inc. EV car companies are rapidly vanishing. With a rapidly shinking EV market at home (the masses in China now are bankrupt) and increasing tarrifs and high vehicle saftey regulations faced abroad (at least in North America, Japan and Europe), BYD might be the last CCP EV company left soon, if their batteries stop burning.
