  2. My guess is that a lot of gig operators have a high percentage of college graduates, working to support themselves barely. These young people must at least feel resentful of their situation. As China's economy continues to tank, there is not only a negative feedback mechanism of economic stagnation affecting people of China, but this will overflow to other countries as China falls to the number 3 economy of the world (after Japan).
