Taiwan is not off the table because of TSMC and other incredibly important factors. If the PLA invades Taiwan, this causes a massive shortage of microchips worldwide. No more of many things from TVs to tablets if the PLA does this. Also Taiwan is hugely and strategically important to Japan (Japan is the second closest country to Taiwan and has an ongoing and productive relationship for decades with it). The relationship between Australia and Japan is also important. CCP China has been getting away with an extremely churlish attitude and unilateral territorial acquisition (South China Sea in the last decade). China is also still ruled by a totalitarian one party. Politics matters; it matters as much as economics.

I kind of agree with the majority of what Dave CC has said. The average price of property across the nation is way overpriced. I don't own property because of high mortgage interest rates on expensive overpriced property is dumb; additionally high insurance rates, high council rates and high utility costs and the liklihood that the property price bubble will burst next year. The domestic gas prices are far too high because of the gutless politicians caving in to fossil fuel giants (or are they in their pockets already)? Manufacturing jobs has also has atrophied over the decades. Note the high cost of wages in Sweden and Germany and how these countries have held onto their manufacturing and innovation strengths, while Australia has largely cheaply and foolishly discarded it. Australia may be energy and mineral rich, but we pay high domestically for it. Not all is well in the sunburned land "down under". Not at all.
