Well, Cold War I avoided nuclear armageddon, which was a close-run thing. I hope we can avoid this with China too in Cold War 2, but actually the US is rather one-sided in this. The US currently has 3 times as many nukes as China (the PLA is rapidly building more nukes to try to counter this, while the US mearly replaces old nukes). This is a nuclear conflict that everyoje wants to avoid, but China acts a bit differently to Russia. China, pushes out gradually. This is seen by militarizing the South China Sea. This strategy is partially designed to blockade Taiwan, but instead has cemented a SE Asian alliance against China. China, like the Soviet Union, lacks allies (Russia is an ally, but so moribund now, they are more of a hinderance than an asset). China's best hope is to drive a wedge between tge American led NATO allies and it's allies in SE and North Asia. However, the CCP is spectacularly failing at this, and the Russian war in Ukraine just makes it worse for them
