Gold cannot be used anymore as money, because the 1970s since we've detatched gold's value for US dollar currency, productivity of everything has massively outstripped gold (it was outstripping the supply of gold before that). In a mainly agrarian ciilization like ancient Egyot, Greece and Rome, and even in the Middle Ages, gold can hold the value of the entire economy as money back then. The value of gold found (and we've found most of it sitting in bank vaults and in jewellery since within the last 100 years) is approximately 11 trillion dollars. The GDP of the United States now is valued at 14 trillion dollars alone, let alone the rest of the world put together. Hence, gold and all the precious metals together in a post-industrial world cannot hold bullion value to bank notes exchanges anymore. Hence the fiat value of the US dollar is what everyone using the SWIFT system trades off of now.

Come on, we have not seen a Type 2 Supernova event in the Milky Way galaxy since the early 17th century by Tycho Brahe, just slightly too early to be observed with the first astronomical telescope that Galileo made (1610, he observed Jupiter's 4 largest moons). In the 420 years since Brahe's observation, no Type 2 Supernova has been yet observed in the Milky Way. How do you expect the even rarer merging neutron star hypernova to occur as frequently?
