  1. Macao is a specialist hub, much like the urban enclave of Monte Carlo (Principality of Monaco) in Europe. It's size and population (0.6 million) is too small to diversify and value add into other industries, other than international tourism. While nearby Hong Kong (7.4 million) is much more populous, and was able to diversify it's industries decades ago.
