As well as American/Filipino POWs in the Bataan Death March, the Australian POWs suffered the Sandakan Death March later in the war in Borneo; in 1945 when it was clear that Japan was suffering defeat after defeat in the Pacific and SE Asia and the homeland of Japan was being heavily bombed by USAF B-29s. This did not introduce even a mote of better treatment from their captors. These criminal Imperial Japanese army fanatics in charge of these POW then went even further in their sadism and did their utmost to exterminate these POWs in the most suffering way that the mind of a criminal sadist could imagine. Not all of them got caught, charged and executed for their culpable acts of brutality and wickedness when Japan surrendered, as well as flouting the Geneva convention.
