  1. Jack Ma would have done fine as an entrepreneur if he had Western citizenship and his businesses existed there. His companies would have done very well in a free market service economy. In fact, he probably now would be vaulting to the level of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. He's a more interesting person than Elon Musk. There is a fundamental difference between the economic systems of China and Western countries (in general). Western countries deploy creative destruction. This sounds negative, but I fact it isn't. Since the Western industrial revolution in the early nineteenth century, creative destruction becomes the primary modes of economic and technological change. For example, steam engines were replaced in the early twentieth century by more efficient combustion engines; this is an example of creative destruction. This creative destruction has intensified and quickened in the IT industry which Jack Ma is part of. Individuals like Ma are uncomfortable to the CCP, because the CCP is fundamentally about authoritarian centralisation, of which creative destruction (the likes of Ma's companies) the CCP believes undermines it. This puts him at odds with the CCP. The current economic system of the CCP leads to a moribund economic system, which we have recently seen.
