  1. The real ugly story of this propaganda is the need to find an outsider as a scapegoat, and Jews (through no fault of their own) become scapegoats writ large. This serves the tenant of totalitarianism; to find a scapegoat, in which you might notice that both the Nazis and the Soviets (to varying degrees) used anti-semitism as a platform of scapegoatism. This conveniently deflects away from your own social ills and heaps it upon another's head. Furthermore, the scapegoat is depicted as not being passive but active and scheming, making them appear underhanded and dishonest. That Nazis brainwashed Germans through anti-semitic propaganda to commit horrible mass crimes against millions of innocent ethnic communities across Europe should be enough to convince anyone who is not a totalitarian demagogue, that this approach is pure reprehensible evil.
