Mainly the horrors of British WW2 logistics. The US logistics barely gets a mention. The payment of incentives is called a "kickback" i think. You'll deliver these on time (or before), not damaging or thrashing your truck and you get a pay bonus (at the, end of the month). With GPS systems, supply trucks are now regularly tracked (yes, in WW2 there was no GPS). In the competitive world this makes some sense. But knowing human beings, we get a pay incentive scheme called corruption. Especially when a supply bottleneck appears or an item is in short supply. How to make the corruption easier (as two third parties may agree) does cut profit to the supplier and makes the buyer pay more. Hmmm, money does work.
