  1. Could Rohm simply be a rival to Hitler's power and ambition to rule, an "enemy in the camp"? After all the SA were a very numerous faction of the Nazi party. The Night of the Long Knives was less about ideology and more about who was dictator. By bloodying up the leaders in the SA (Rohm and his deputies), additionally by shooting the conservative opponents of Hitler, such as Schleicher and imprisoning von Papen in the same week, Hitler eliminated two opposing camps of his dictatorship in one fell swoop. This was no longer then a "peaceful revolution" at this point.

  2. "We are not monsters", but politics has a very sinister way of becoming monsterous, eh? Hitler and his over-inflated ego believed he was the "Man of Destiny" for a militaristic revived Germany. He said it on numerous occasions, many believed him like fools. Hitler then having gained the instrument of state power of the strongest state in Europe, then like a vengeful murderer, bloodied Europe with it. Hitler, far from being an object of ridicule was above all a sinister lawless usurper peddling a racialist hate-flavoured flawed ideology. Then like Lenin and Stalin and Mao Zedong, created hell on Earth within and without the borders of his "Thousand Year Reich". We can all be thankful that he didn't succeed.
