  1. Australia has a chequered history when it comes to immigration. It's one of the most multicultural countries on Earth now, but this hides a shady racist past. It was called the "white Australia policy" and it was one of the first acts of the new Australian Federal parliament, when it covened in 1901. It was finally abolished in all it's forms in 1972. This policy severely restricted immegration from Asia in particular, which it was primarily aimed. Even people from Southern Europe had difficulties arriving here.

  3. Telecommunications is Telstra. A company with the worst customer service record in the known universe. I'm an Australian, so i'll concur that Telstra is bloody awful, and most people who have to use it (like in the country areas) hate it. The reason for that woeful set of circumstances by an appalling telco is also determined by competition. Only 30% of Australians live outside the aforementioned big cities, and maybe a couple of hundred thousand in total in the entire outback (70% of the country by land area). For example, Canberra, the nation's capital which has a mere 500,000 people there. So Telsta is a near monopoly on the country (not enough subscribers).
