  3. Germans should be familiar with battlegrounds; wars have plagued their country over a millennia. The coronavirus catastrophe has played its part; it quickly speeded up a process that was ongoing. It's a Cold War 2 scenario with significant differences. The First Cold War (1948-1989) was largely fought over Eastern Europe and was primarily a technological & military confrontation, not an economic one. The Second Cold War (2020+) is altogether a technological, economic and military confrontation, globally. Europe will be involved in it, not just the US and its North American/Pacific allies. This year is a milestone change; like 1914, 1939, 1948 & 1989 was in the twentieth century (the last 2 dates emphatically involved the city of Berlin). The common thread though of both these Cold Wars is ideology; large state charismatic dictatorships versus democracy and human rights.
