  1. I think German foreign policy has been a failure vis-à-vis Eastern Europe and Russia, a geopolitical affair that should be on the top of their foreign affairs agenda. Their policy of containment of Russia (in Europe and the Middle East) has been woeful at best (look at Ukraine, the Crimean Peninsular and Syria). You cannot "contain" an aggressive dictatorship by appeasement (dare I say "1938 Munich Agreement" here)? The Nord 2 pipeline also has dubious long-term economic effects as well (shorn of their political aspects). Undoubtedly, it will make natural gas cheaper in Germany which is good for industry and consumers, but is also a double edged sword so to speak. The lowering of energy costs puts a damper on development of emissions free energy plants such as solar or wind power generation, which is working against environmental energy policies, laws and guidelines enacted by the EU and the Bundestag!
