  1. Well I'll be darned (again). I.e. in English is actually Latin meaning "ID EST" (using capitalization), which means "in other words" (usually working to a point in argument, and note the laconic efficiency of Latin over English in this case even unabbreviated). Note, my bloody spell checker wants to put "I'd" (I would). So calling people I.e. (in Chinese) seems harmless, if not perplexing, but it's not. If it's your house cleaner, it may be a badge of derision like "slave" or "menial".
