  1. You still didn't explain the social credit system that China is perfecting with face recognition technology and cameras on every street corner. The social credit system is about political control, pure and simple. Reducing petty crimes like theft is a secondary consideration. In China, I doubt if people can now recognize the difference between common law crime (e.g. theft) and political or "thought crime", e.g. criticizing the CCP for setting up and perfecting the social credit system in the first place. This ethical failure is commonplace in totalitarian societies where separation of the law for the protection of freedoms (e.g. not having your stuff looted) and free speech (e.g. putting political pressure on the government from below) is blurred or nonexistent. The penal system is corrupt; harsh penalties or death for holding the elites accountable. Who wants to live in a gigantic gaol?
