  1. Depends on where he was teaching. Many middle and high schools in China, during the Cultural Revolution, full scale battles were going on between teachers and radicalized red guard teenagers. Teachers were not only illegally locked up and beaten, in some cases the violence and rancour was so bad that teachers and students were murdered. This was all about Mao's anti-intellectualism and class conflict mania.
