In Anglophone countries (I can't speak for Americans), the phone numbers are split into 3 (except if the phone number has an odd number of digits, in which you speak the first four digit numbers. Of course, the individual numbers are spoken. Very interesting how numbers are interpreted differently in different cultures, with placement marks (decimal and hundreds placers) are different. Makes it awkward in interpreting figures, a bit like changing money. :-)
