  2. Not really Emperor worship. Under the old feudal regimes of China, usually the Emperor worship stopped at the gates of the Forbidden City. The vast majority of the Chinese population back then only heard of the Emperor's name during his reign. Unless (wealthy people) wanted their sons to enter the (famous or infamous) civil service exams on the Chinese classics and calligraphy to become a Manderin, the ordinary people usually had very little to do with the Emperor and his court and just go on with their lives with little interference from the government except in paying taxes.VERY different from how the CCP tries to micromanage everyone, every day in China now.
