@tearsandink3204 true. And time obviously. I grew up in a small town close to Linz and back in the 80s we knew 5th December after dark you only go outside if you actually want to chase Krampus. Because the local teenage boys are all dressed up and ready to beat up children. I found out later that they mostly scare kids and only really harm other teens if they have issues with each other but as a child I was terrified and stayed home.

Krampus day is on 5 December the 6th is St Nikolaus day. And even grown ups are still to this day scared of Krampus. Because he`s everywhere on 5 December. And kids on the countryside know to only leave the house after dark if they`re ready for a Krampus to hunt them, or vice versa . Teenagers dress up as Krampus all over Austria and at least they used to really scare and sometimes beat up kids. So the fact that all kids know Krampus is not a real creature, is what makes him extra scary!

@tearsandink3204 in the 80s and early 90s that wasn't restricted to the official Perchtenlauf. They just ran around after dark and other kids would go hunt them and wise versa. Kramperl jagen 😅
