It's not an either, or, situation. Socialism relies on capitalism for economic viability. Think of capitalism as the bacteria that was incorporated into the cell as the mitochondria. Tell me this: if there are a thousand issues of a companies stock, and there are a thousand workers all of whom own one share of stock, is this company capitalist or socialist? Or perhaps a private company organized along socialist lines doesn't make sense to you. Personally I see socialism as a phase of human organization, in it's evolution toward a RetroConfucian TechnoMeritocracy. Wherein there will be periodic government upgrades, and all offices will be held by the candidate who scored best in tests and virtual scenarios designed by AI machine learning logarithms to discern the optimal person to hold that position in government. All positions would be open to anyone interested in undergoing psychological testing which would eliminate those with sociopath and psychopathic tendencies and determine by expertise and real-time virtual scenarios the best person for the position. The capitalist/socialist mix would be determined by the affluence and happiness quotients of the populace as a whole. In time these same AI developed methods and metrics could be used to develop means of production and businesses, and determine the management and other employees of same.
