  1. GM and others may "sell" their cars to the dealerships, but they also loan the dealerships the money to buy them. The dealerships finance the cars on their lots through the OEM companies that produce them. So in reality GM and company are "selling" their cars to themselves. The dealerships pay the interest on the loans which are frequently rebated.
