  1. If you can't do it without a drug, you really don't know what the hell you are talking about, which puts you firmly in the middle of the bell curve of wanna-be-mystics. Real mysticism is a physical alteration of your metabolism that leads to real higher states that you enter because of real insights. The reason these external substances work is because you body is set-up to utilize similar substances that it can produce itself. Unfortunately this is not available in some McDonalds of enlightemnent even if it does have all the trappings of ceremony and such. It's probably a good thing that many westerners are at least experiencing a pale and distorted reflection of real enlightenment from these substances, but ultimately if they do not lead you to the real way to expand consciousness, they are just a ride at the funhouse. If you have never experienced a natural expansion of consciousness that is even more intense than any hallucinogen then it is easy to see why you would think that such drug experiences are similar to real enlightenment. They are not. I have experienced both, many times, and only people who have never experience the real thing could look upon this and the topics of discussion here as impressive. But given the choice of the consensus consciousness of modern humans and that of those who have taken some intense psychadelic I would say do the acid, or mescaline or DMT or whatever, it will give you a hint, but just that.
