  1. I am thinking that the possibility of a terrorist setting a fire in the west will lead to all occupants of flammable regions of the USA being recorded at all times by drones. I am also thinking that this will be one of the first major systems to actually be designed and controlled by machine learning and artificial intelligence. All persons will be accurately identified and actually observed by a suite of thermal, night vision, and other optical devices continually. Perhaps sensor fuzed chemical anti-conflagration devices could be released by the drones and be at the scene within seconds of the fire starting.

  2. I would say the primary reason is that if all else fails, Israel can serve as a base which the USA and perhaps their allies can build up a force capable of any attack or counter-attack that is deemed necessary in the region.
