17:00 On the right on the pillar, you can see a barcode scanner. If you are in doubt about the price of an item, you can scan barcode and device will show you out the current price of the item.

Ideas for cheap dinner: 1. Frozen dumplings by weight (need to boil) + cucumber 2. Instant noodle Doshirak + sausage by weight 3. Some potatoes + sausage by weight 3. Pack of kefir + bread (old fashion meal)

@MWENDA-vv5im Drivers and couriers are, as a rule, migrants from Central Asia.

I have dozens of stores in St. Petersburg within a radius of a kilometer from my house. Some of them work 24/7. Every time I have to decide what store to choose. On the other hand, I live in old Soviet house: a kitchen of 5 square meters and no elevator. I can't put a big refrigerator, it's hard to take a lot of food to the fourth floor without an elevator and there is nowhere to store it.

Мне кажется дом построен лет 15 назад, судя по дизайну и потрепанности. Сейчас подъезды строят симпатичнее.

Привет сербам! С Новым 2024 годом! 🎉🎄🥂🍾🎂🎁

Did you know that you can ride a real narrow-gauge steam locomotive on the children's railway in St. Petersburg? It makes several trips a day in the summer on weekends from Kupchino to Pushkin. А вы знали, что на детской железной дороге в Санкт-Петербурге вы можете прокатиться на настоящем узкоколейном паровозе? Он совершает несколько рейсов в день летом по выходным дням из Купчино в Пушкин.

The Russian Orthodox Church is highly centralized and completely controlled by the state. But we have many other churches and religions here.
12
@Blobocop This soviet panel design was influenced by French architect Le Corbusier and German architects too. A lot of documentation was taken by the Soviets from Germany after WW2.
11
Never heard of Mayak stores before. It turned out that we have 2 such stores in St. Petersburg. Their stores of a smaller format "Svetofor" are better known. And in Europe, this chain operates under the Mere brand.

The egg is a living organism. It lives, breathes and accumulates toxins. The low temperature slows down these processes and allows the egg to stay fresh and tasty longer. The shelf life of eggs in Russia is 25 days at room temperature and 3 months at 0°C. The first 7 days eggs are considered dietary.
11
I think they just bought all the eggs and all the caviar in this store. In St. Petersburg, eggs and caviar are freely sold near my house. 10 chicken eggs cost $1-1.5, red caviar costs $3 per 100g.
11
Many malls in Russia have a large anchor hypermarket inside.
10
@loktaiextatus Have you eaten Lay's "Red caviar" potato chips?
9
Did you know that Svetofor chain supermarkets have a bigger hypermarket version called Mayak? We have two of them in St.Petersburg.
7
@NicolasValentinScotland Dude, you're delusional. Look at the checkout to see if people come out with empty trolleys.
7
@NicolasValentinScotland For 2022, the official profit of the Globus company in Russia is 4 billion rubles ($44 million), revenue for 2022 is 136 billion rubles ($1.5 billion).

Smoked fish is delicious. I opened the website of the Moscow Globus hypermarket, the salted and smoked fish section, and found 233 different items.
6
Small transparent plastic bags, for example for vegetables, can be taken for free. Large bags for 7-10 kg of goods can be purchased at the checkout for ≈5 cents.
5
2:30 - I bet this Coca-Cola was made in Uzbekistan.

Soviet Champagne is not so popular now. It was a common brand for all Soviet wineries and it continued into the 1990s. Now there are more Russian champagnes, but each company has its own brand, for example Abrau Durso or Derbentskoe. Soviet champagne is now difficult to find.

5
Welcome! Here in St. Petersburg we have the same distance to Moscow and Stockholm.
5
@capitainebonhomme1609 There are different cities in Russia with different winter climates: from -60 Celsius in Yakutsk to +15 Celsius in Sochi.
4
@vknmail Any fresh eggs within 1 week are dietary. :-)
4
Welcome to the shoebox (business class!!!)
4
Do you need a mortgage to buy a $40,000 apartment?
4
4:30 - Danish Expat promoting cheap 365 private brand. Looks very weird! We considering 365 brand as cheapest of the cheap. :-) 11:00 - Clarified Butter, melted at factory. Not so popular but someone buy it.
4
В1 itself means "Первый выбор" (First choice). This is a discount division of the Magnit chain of stores.
4
My mother in St. Petersburg has a favorite coffee mug with a red Dalecarlian horse, which I brought from Stockholm. And Julbock too.
3
3
@TravellingwithRussell Old Soviet apartments can have gas stoves and even gas water heaters. You can spot these houses by the yellow gas pipes on the outer walls.
3
The stronger your door, the better you sleep. :-)
3
@NicolasValentinScotland LOL :-) Then who are these products sold to?
3
@alexanderchepak2009 The egg is a single-celled organism.
3
Also famous place is Pyshechnaya in St. Petersburg. Address is Bolshaya Konyushennaya St., 25, St. Petersburg.
3
@pat-2024 diversity?! Too dangerous, thank you!

Look at this house. Imagine if you need to buy 5 kilograms of ice cream and take it up to the 15th floor to your apartment? Perhaps you will buy 5 kg of potatoes or sugar. But ice cream? For what? Tomorrow you will pass here again and buy a different type of ice cream. After school, your children can also buy themselves a portion of ice cream and immediately have fun eating with friends.
2
@janburn007 Of course there is an elevator to the 15th floor. But there are no elevators in Soviet five-story buildings. I live on the 4th floor of a 5-story building without an elevator. I have 6 sq.m. kitchen, I have a small refrigerator. But I have 10 supermarkets and food stores within a 500m radius from my house. Why should I store 5kg of ice cream at home? I can buy it near my house at any time, even on holidays at night. Children can also buy themselves ice cream when they go home from school. That's why I keep a maximum of 400 grams of ice cream at home. It's not so popular here to make ice cream cakes at home. I think ice cream is more of an impulse buy. If you want ice cream, you buy and eat it.

Suburbs like those in the US are not very common in Russia. Something similar can be seen in expensive "cottage settlements" (gated communities). Usually people in Russia live outside the cities in villages, settlements and garden communities. They have a local school, a medical center, some stores, a bus and train stop. Usual land lot is 600-1200 sq.meters. Double garages are not common but you can build whatever you want.
2
Have you eaten "Lay's red caviar" potato chips?
2
@K2teknik. It depends on my income and the value of my previous property.
2
Apparently the house was built before the mass appearance of automatic washing machines. Therefore, the bathroom is not designed for installation of a washing machine and is now quite cramped. To fit everything, they installed a narrow washing machine with vertical loading and a small sink.
2
I prefer the Lenta store to Okay. You can always ask for a loyalty card from another customer at the checkout.
2
Yes, of course. You can see self checkout area at 14:20.
2
There are no Globus stores in St.Petersburg, but Auchan, Metro, O'key, Lenta hypermarkets are near the same.
2
😂😂😂
2
There is at least 2 different Mishka candies: "Mishka kosolapy" and "Mishka na Severe". You can see Mishka kosolapy candies by weight at 10:46 and a packed ones at 10:50.

Not everyone in the Soviet Union received a free apartment. People have been waiting for this for decades. Some like my family had to pay a lot of money for a "cooperative apartment".
