Even though I wasn’t there I loved picturing that little moment. I bet, even then, he could have fulfilled at least half his functions on the ship if his body was able. If the elderly were recognized for the amazing value they offer, far fewer would get dementia. When your brain idles, it ossifies. My grandfather was a practicing doctor until he was 87 and it was only the cost of malpractice insurance (due solely to his age) that forced him to close his practice. And he never lost his wits.

@STOPDELETINGMYCOMMENTSFASCISTS Sorry to hear that. I don’t consider them the “greatest generation” just because of WWII, but because they survived and thrived during such changing times. We should be utilizing seniors who can and want to use their experience to help out. Hell, most would work for free just to help out. Before I got my own trailer, I was paying an 80 year old retired fireman hauling my race car to events. He’s constantly towing race cars and huge trailers around the country and loves it.

Forget all those things. Dude had a massive brain.

I love the fact that USN would rather see the RN win than the US Army. Sounds positively Japanese. BTW, Lee has got to be the most brilliant Admiral in modern history by a long stretch. I’d feel invulnerable being on his ship.
