  1. It’s frustrating how many forget / never knew operational costs are the most VIP cost factor + whether or not it can assume and eliminate the roles of and need for other platforms.

  2. Exactly. It would have been far cheaper than the F35 and it WAS cheaper than the F14. They have produced a couple hundred, but they were supposed to produce nearly a thousand.

  3. I believe the F15 EX actually has the most powerful radar in the world with APG-82. BTW, can we still call the F35 an acquisition boondoggle considering it essentially turned out to cost less than many past platforms? The real question though isn’t unit purchase cost, it’s how much each unit will cost when you included life maintenance and operation cost. I know the F14, for example, was supposed to be an absolute maintenance nightmare.
