Hell, France, despite being the EU’s second biggest economy, has given €300m less than Lithuania in arms (which is 64x smaller) and haven’t even reached half-a-billion while Germany is at 17.1b or so so far. France is pathetic.

@andersbjrnsen7203 Macron lost interest when it became clear he couldn’t make his mark on history by being the man to talk Putin down from the ledge. He’s such a clown. Anyway, Denmark doesn’t feel the pressure locally, but they’ve been giving big.

@andersbjrnsen7203 Finland has that true local pressure, but I am skeptical most Swedes and Norwegians fear a land invasion. A fear of Russia aggression in concentration of Arctic resources, yes. You pointed the most realistic source of tension I failed to think of right now: naval aggression. I think the biggest difference is they have a closer historical experience with Russian aggression and Scandinavians generally have a more common sense, less selfish or more humane attitude than those in Western Europe and the US. Anyway, seems like we basically agree. Scandinavians recognize the threat Russia presents whether it’s to European stability generally or an existential domestic threat.

@jonsouth1545 It is one of his poorer analyses since it totally neglects atrophied European weapons productions capabilities and acts like GDP or PPP directly equates to production capacity. However, Europe still does have more aggregate production capacity than Russia. More importantly, it has the ability to scale up production capacity in less than a year if it really WANTS TO. We saw how quickly the usually slow moving Germany built enormous LNG plants when they had to if they wanted to ensure energy stability.
