  1. Exactly. The presenter is clueless and seems to know nothing about carriers. A nuclear engine is required for electromagnetic catapults as it takes 1m watts per airplane launch (enough to power an entire town). The Fujian’s engineer even said so, but Xi said he wanted it anyway.

  3.  @wanderschlosser1857  You may be thinking of older catapults and you’re not just launching one plane. You also need shit loads of power for a million other things on state of the art carrier. So, power is most definitely an issue. The unlimited range part goes without saying.

  4. You can’t power an electromagnetic catapult without nuclear power. There’s just not enough electricity created by normal engines to employ them and the Fujian’s engineer even said so, but Xi said he wanted it anyway.
