And he was taking it very easy too.

Lap times don’t mean anything when you have to keep slowing down for cars crawling around the track. That’s at 30 seconds right there.
4
And any of the others would have made him a standup guy since he says they’re doing it at the owner’s risk and accidents do happen when you a track a lot.
3
Finally, a guy who realizes that a little tuning shop isn’t going to do a better with the suspension than people with engineering degrees and billions of dollars worth of design tools.
3
@CJ-vc7ts He wasn’t driving as fast he possibly could, but he was doing aggressive stuff he normally tries not to do with other owners’ cars because he was enjoying the cars so much.
3
Lap time isn’t really relevant when it involves more than a dozen cars slowing you way down.
2
E46 M3 and E39 M5 are the last good M cars. It’s all junk afterward even though they’re fast. But that goes for most car makes (get past the mid-2000s and it’s all overly electronic junk with rarely a true manual in sight).
2
I don’t agree. The owner is lucky he’s making him square. You accept the risk that these things happen when you track cars. It’s also why you can see him take it easier when the car is insanely expensive.
2
Normally, I tell new drivers to get a slow car as their first race/track only car, but ‘Ring is one of the few tracks you actually need some power. Otherwise, you’re pegging the limiter for minutes on end + flat out easy in many sections. Still, even at the ring, something like an M3 is wayyyy too fast for racing / track newbies to hone their craft well.
2
@pinmast0r He had signed for Ferrari when his gruesome accident happened. He was undoubtedly going to be a WDC some day.
2
I cried when Kubica’s rally accident (effectively) ended F1 his career. I think any organizer would give Kubica dispensation for license requirements. I thought his FIA super license isn’t still active. He’s been an F1 test driver very recently.
2
@ I meant he was not going 10/10ths. More like 8.5/10 and making it look easy because he’s Robert effing Kubica. He was also clearly trying to spare the car too much punishment.
2
It annoys so many “car guys” don’t get this. If you’re going to call yourself a performance enthusiast, learn how to actually drive a car.
2
This is what most owners of fast cars need to learn. 99% can’t drive them at all.
2
@CJ-vc7ts He also himself said that he hit a new top speed record in one of the corners.
2
What a life Kevin gets to live! If I was younger I’d be envious. Now, I’m just happy to see people living their dreams.
1
Just so buttery smooth. He could have easily gone faster if he wanted to, but he was driving perfectly elegantly. As he even said himself, this speed “was very easy.”
1
Well, you could be a much faster driver, but their car is faster. I’ve seen people lap cars with triple their horsepower. All those cars he passed were clearly newbies to boot. Two of the riders were actually pretty quick.
1
Mini owner needs to be the driver rather than the other way around.
1
That was one noisy wheel bearing.
1
Misha was having so much more fun than normal with this car.
1
Yes. You also need to hang out at the track with other racers. They’ll help you so much and besides saving you tons of $, they’ll save you from making a lot dumb mistakes. The worst thing you can really do is make your first track car a really nice car. It’ll be too fast and cost too much to run unless you’re absolutely loaded.
1
Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous car.
1
PS - My first race car was a Golf Cup Car (a Mk2 GTI that was a race car from the factory) for the Golf Cup originally driven by Wally Dallenbach. It had 50% less power. A great car to learn how to be fast on.
1
His geometry was amazing. You can’t teach that level of refinement.
1
@Richard_Turner Yes. I’d love to see that. But I’m sure every single instructor would of course recognize him. The person at the front probably doesn’t even like cars or racing. They’re just doing a clerical job.
1
@rafaeln21 Are you kidding? The EU is far more restrictive than the US. There would be no issue with having a setup like the ring in the US. It’ll just never happen anywhere again because it was a public works program just to provide jobs. You could never, ever make your money back building a 14 mile track let alone in an area with beautiful rolling hills.
1
@rafaeln21 BTW, why did you run out and get more guns? You thought the dems were going to ban them? lol The gun industry always try to scare right wingers into thinking everything is about to be banned to make them come out and buy. Yet it never happens.
1
It took me a while to figure out I was hearing the wheel bearing.
1
@RobertoDTK No: “Iz Georgian tradition for to crash cars.”
1
Assuming (knowing) it wasn’t a Tecpro barrier, that barrier charge is absurd. That’s definitely a racket.
1
The teams need a ton of engineers. So, it’d be completely unsurprising if he was or working for another high level motorsport program. Also, companies like JPL love engineers who are gear heads. They’re always much better engineers than students who only have theoretical training.
1
Man, what was up with your French?!
1
Sickest car you’ve driven on the ring so far.
1
It also shows how much more important actually being a good driver is than just buying a fast car that is 10x faster than your talent and skill/experience level.
1
You’re a proper owner. Cheers.
1
@JeroenVanGorp-k4y Which takes away so much performance itself it defeats the purpose.
1
My first race car was a Golf Cup Car (a Mk2 GTI that was a race car from the factory) for the Golf Cup originally driven by Wally Dallenbach. I love actually functional builds like this. So many are just focused on numbers and glitz. We’ve got the same gloves including color.
