  2. It’s a lot more complex than this, but you’ve made a good start for someone who looks 20. A very concise big picture summary. Anyway, yes, Iraq was largely about oil, but it wasn’t mainly about getting Iraq’s oil. More important was their plan to use Iraq as a permanent military base at a key chokepoint for both the production and transportation of oil in the region. It’s actually more difficult to keep it moving than simply finding it when you have hostile powers ranged against you. Obviously, it goes way beyond simply oil even. The roots of the conflict trace all the way back to the Dulles brothers and beyond. BTW, you forgot about the most important thing by far that we let Saudi Arabia off the hook for: 9/11. In fact, the US desperately did everything they could to cover up SA connections to the attack. Wouldn’t be good for business after all...
