  2. That’s like marveling that Britain was around for both too. It means nothing when you consider it was ruled by the Saxons, Danes and French (Normans). Like England, what constituted the Ottoman Empire was flexible. It would be conquered multiple times yet its conquerors would claim the title of sultan and/or caliph rather than renaming it or radically changing its character.

  3. It would not have been worth the manpower and resources. Briton certainly never was and became a huge source for instability since it always required so many legions that its governors often took them all back to the continent in a bid for the title of emperor.
