  1. The statues were not built by the Confederacy but by white supremacists in the 1960s. Lee never wanted statues or memorials for himself

  2.  @crzmicky  basically at West Point standards are so high even leaving a shoelace untied gets written up as a demerit, or a penalty point. This has not prevented graduation in most cases (expulsion requires more than demerits) but Lee and 5 others managed to sit 4 years with no demerits.
