most of the diaspora speak Eastern dialect while most Armenians at home speak Western dialect of Armenian. As for dialect when speaking other languages, it depends on generation.
2
the USSR funded and subsidized a lot of things in the republics and allied nations like North Korea. When they broke off and the USSR collapsed they were on their own and couldn't afford to maintain everything.
2
I want a sidekick like Alinchik
2
India had a big construction boom in the late 70s and 80s but economic crises and gross mismanagement of funds led to heaps of places just left the buildings as they were. Due to the chaotic nature of bureaucracy in India virtually nothing modern can get done without direct intervention from the main government or local strongmen.
2
yes

Harald also left in a hurry....hmmmm

national security policeman.
2
you can't drink in the actual irradiated zone, the shop and Ivan's house are in resettlement areas that are not applicable to the law (although you can't bring your own alcohol inside)
2
Karelia was a Soviet republic but of a lower status to the likes of Armenia and Kazakhstan- it was a part of the main Russian SSR but had a very high degree of autonomy, like the Tuvan or Cechnyan Republics today. It is famous because of the woods and also because of its very unique culture shared with Finland.
2
@Ancient_Chronicler Estonians can understand Finnish mostly because Finnish TV is viewable in major cities like Tallinn and Tartu and for a certain generation it was the only foreign language apart from Russian they could learn. However the languages have many homonyms (words that sound the same but mean different) that will confound and confuse each other, an Estonian and Finn will probably speak English when they meet these days. The people on Aaland (an Island belonging to Finland) certainly cannot understand Estonians- they speak Swedish!
2
most folks in Ukraine speak or understand Russian so he's ok. The languages are kind of intelligible but Russian is widely spoken the further east you go. You might notice the guide says "Dobry den" when they visit the shop instead of "Privyet" . Dobry den is a typical Central European greeting used in Poland,Czech Republic, Slovakia and sometimes in Hungary

Well, he is a big bald white man and walking in daylight.
2

2
he doesn't know where to go, although there's a lot we don't see behind the scenes
2
we've known his name for a year or so he revealed it on Instagram and in videos after that
2
more than one, it looked like
2
it can be Haidar Hyder Hidyr Heyder etc. Remember Azeri is a Turkic language so the vowels are different
2
he has already been there.
1
he has Alinchik to translate, fear not!
1
Was that a Captain Macmillan quote at the end or a coincidence?
1
well he won't be able to cross directly into Armenia (the border is closed and there are no flights) so a detour to Georgia might be necessary. Even then, if the authorities see an Azerbaijan visa in his passport he might get dunked into the Med.
1
You just made me hungry lol
1
Ivan Petrovich Samyakin was a Belarussian professor and writer who became a deputy of the whole USSR in the 80s. He was from that part of Belarus.
1
you can blame white flight for that one. Why can't this race just get along with others?
1
he might say something horrible. better not to try without an actual guide. That is why he asks locals the basic greetings first in Russian.
1
@JesusisJesus Azerbaijan is actually at low altitude near the Caspian so the leaves will actually cause trouble
1
in the election that brought Sarkozy to power someone compared the parts of France impacted by the radiation cloud to the areas that supported right wing candidate Jean Marie le Pen and found that they almost matched.
1

Dagestan is majority Muslim and some of the TV stations occasionally play Middle Eastern music or Turkish music. Azerbaijan is also mainly Muslim and culturally Turkish as well.
1
Baldy speaks Russian so naturally he looks for Russian speakers
1
Suu Kyii was not elected as head of state/government as she has foreigner children. She was instead made the leader of her party and chose the PM, who many consider to be her puppet. The demonym for someone from Myanmar is still Burmese.
1
We can't all be chained to our couch, doc
1
This is the only place that had a UKIP MP, who later went on to quot
1
Bald knows that when the guy says Russia he means the non-Caucasus bits and more traditionally European part of Russia. A lot of those republics are only Russian by geography, Slavic Russian culture is almost absent in many places-no Orthodox churches, prevalence of Muslim religion, local languages, autonomous local government and societal structure.
1
cashless is pretty common in Eastern Europe. In some places like Tallinn and Prague you can do everything by card. It was a kiosk in a major train station of course, elsewhere it might be cash only.
1
a normal Andi sentence would probably not have so many sounds, a typical !Xhosa "how are you today my friend" already has over 10
1
has a job and life in Belarus, unlike him her passport doesn't travel that easily.
1
Azerbaijan hated being a Soviet republic like Georgia did so they started de-Soviet-ing as soon as they could. When they discovered oil and gas in the Caspian they went even further away from Soviet/Russian influence and decided to embrace ties with Turkey and Iran (and Israel) instead as well as Western Europe. More Azeris live in Iran compared to Azerbaijan.
1
It is a Buddhist symbol for the night and serenity. In Japanese and Korean maps until recently a swastika meant a Buddhist temple was there.
1
poor Kolya....seems to be suffering from rhumatism
1
The republic of Mongolia is not the same as the old empire; most "traditional" Mongolians are in fact living in China.
