South Africa was into the small cars as pick-up trucks too. Often smaller than 2.0 litre engines. Zimbabwe has them too. I think they call them bongos. I'm in Australia near where they started the family car pick-up truck called the ute. They're great because almost all the stuff is interchangeable with the family car version and so there's never a shortage of parts. In fact the sedan I have is an very early model of FG (company car ordered without a test drive because they weren't in production yet) and my mechanic told me it has the ute driveshaft, whereas later models had a crappier 1 piece driveshaft that can only be bought as a whole for $1800. Whereas mine will disconnect into 2 and you can just change the bearings on it for under $100.

I was about to mention this because I'm near to where that factory was and letter was written.

Pretty high. Wait til you see white ford company cars in Australia or government cars. I think plain white is the cheapest and there's outback towns in Australia where THE WHOLE TOWN is toyotas. Often 2 different models being 90% of all the cars in town

We have the holden captiva here in Australia. Literally the worst small SUV you can buy with 13 common faults. You can get them for 3 weeks pay although they're 2013 to 2018.

In Australia my grear uncle who worked for ford for 40 years ha the task of RIPPING OFF mazda badges and putting ford badges on. You would think mazda would have sent them with NO badge to save money. But here he was, pulling them off to empty a bin full of badges into the dumpster. He was pretty pissed because "this isn't what making cars is supposed to be about!"

True ONLY IN AMERICA moment. Because here in Australia we would never say that

Here in Australia, damn near EVERYONE seems to be driving crew cabs, including the wife. It's because of a tax advantage. They're "commercial vehicles" so you buy them under a business name and avoid LOTS of taxes. Because you can use your commercial vehicle for personal use, just can't claim the fuel used during personal use. My brother-in-law had one and my sister had another one 6 months newer but identical except for the transmission. They sold hers earlier and recently sold his after they sold their business. Actually UTES only died here when local car manufacturing stopped.

Here in Australia, BMW is notorious for letting people NOT EVEN SIT in their cars. One guy owned 10 McDonald's and bought a porsche. Another guy owns BIG coal mines with his brother. Collectively they're worth $274 MILLION. Wouldn't even let his sit on a 3 series. He had a cheque for a deposit in his pocket. Went and bought a ford.

Well considering how French cars are made...

You can get old ones cheap here in Australia. But they need A LOT of work coz they're high miles and probably stink badly inside (ozone generator will fix that). And you need a special licence to drive. Have considered getting one but they're probably going to be a headache. Sure some of the Chrysler 300s are coming soon
