  40. If you had a business in NYC they do this ALL THE TIME. Audits for previous years taxes, sloppy estimates with a demand you pay them backtaxes on their fairytale estimates. AND BESIDES, the US and Eritrea are the ONLY 2 COUNTRIES that tax you based on citizenship EVEN IF you live in Switzerland with your swiss wife and kids FOR 30 YEARS. Coz a guy was in that exact position, living and working there for decades and gets an IRS letter demanding $300,000. SERIOUSLY. I heard about it from a guy who helps people get citizenship in tax havens.
