  3. It's also interesting to read about the occupation by the UK from 1878 or so until 1974 and about the creating of Turkish enclaves by the UK in the 1960s and the revolt of the people against that and the result of separation in the end. UK lost by applying oppression, apparently.

  7. I saw some shop signs in English, like pawn shop. But maybe there is less (Western) consumerism. From 1878 - 1974 Cyprus was under UK and the population was like Ukraines vs Russians, but then Greek Cypriot vs Turkish Cypriots. In 1963 and 1964 the UK rulership did put the Turkish in enclaves en in 1974 they revolted and got their territory. (wiki info) That illustrates to me that like in Ukraine you cannot go discriminate a significant part of the population (based on ethnics) without repercussions and separation in the end. Who helps those downgraded and suppressed people? The country with the ethnicity of the discriminated ones.

  10. Also a comment says that there is a tactic to make universities for foreigners and then make them English later. Maybe a way by UK (or USA or EU, who knows) to get units and control in the Turkish area. Education forms the opinions together with the media tool.
