A UK RAF Airbus KC2 Voyager did the same (circling for a while) between Mosul and Erbil in Iraq and is returning to the Cyprus Akrotiri UK RAF base now. I wonder what those cargo planes are doing exactly without landing.

USA Air Force Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker flies from Athens, Greece, at the UK circling north from London now (destination N/A). Also 3 Canadian and 1 USA fighter jets are there (to be fueled in the air I guess).
