  3. Russia didn't lose against the Afghans. The USA came to interfere in the influence that Russia had in the area (as usual everywhere). Russia was busy helping to develop that country, modernize it. So the USA funded the Taliban and Russia left the USA with their Taliban which they couldn't control, so the USA had to leave.

  7. Free borders crossing with such military exercises and normally that is prohibited and/or monitored. So there is a 2nd goal: unknown movement of troops and stuff.
