An option given to me by my opthalmic surgeon is to apply a hot towel (I use a facewasher) using hot water at tap temperature (40 - 50⁰C) for 2 to 3 minutes per day. This is supposed to stimulate the skin cells in the lids responsible for producing the oil that coats the surface of the eyeball. I have found this to improve my eye comfort. I have recently had cataract surgery and can't wait to recommence this part of my daily routine.
