Did I miss it, or was lifetime not mentioned? Presumably, the fissile material is in the form of solid rods, and these require regular replacement in a 'normal' reactor, something like every couple of years or less. I do not recall hearing anything about fuel lifetime or replacement intervals. This must have a big impact on running cost and/or lifetime cost of thus type of reactor system, surely?

Just buy Ambri's liquid metal batteries. Problem solved.

@merchantoo hmm, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you had to take the excess carbon OUT OF pig-iron to make it into steel!

Green ammonia could easily be made from green hydrogen. Not sure why you say it's difficult.

Interestingly, an Australian start-up, Hazer Group, has developed the "Hazer Process" which converts bio-methane into green hydrogen and industrial grade graphite which is ideally suited to battery production. https://arena.gov.au/projects/the-hazer-process-commercial-demonstration-plant/#:~:text=The%20Hazer%20Process%20is%20a,the%20feedstock%20as%20solid%20graphite.

This looks VERY promising technology!

As we transition ro renewable energy generation, distributed battery storage will reduce the strain on grids and enable the use of the superabundance of renewables coming our way.
