I love your low key sense of humour. As a 75 y/o nerd who is somewhat "on the spectrum", I find the way you tackle subjects/ topics like this irresistable. I have, over the years, gotten myself bogged down in projects that seemed to be bottomless pits of time and ingenuity, so I can relate all too well. So it's quite a relief to know that I'm not the only crazy tinkerer on the planet.

Smart move! He's excellent!

@stevemulcahy5014 the difference being that you have to hold the pump trigger the whole time you are filling the tank, whereas with an EV you insert the connector and walk away,

The range of charge/discharge is relatively small and should be settable by you, and would have an infinitesimal effect on battery life. But could make you money or at least reduce your cost of charging. To my mind, it would be a good tradeoff to make your battery available in return for free charging!

Coz he's good.
7
Your/you're. Make up you/re mind!
4
That's just sad. We (humanity) HAVE to do better!

Of course, here in 'Straya, where everything is upside down, I quite like the strong greens, and particularly blues, as they make the decorations look a little cooler while we swelter in the Christmas heat!
4
@cristinsunshine1067 a sad indictment of your education system.

Me too, I was always concerned (kinda obviously) about being rear-ended on my bike. I would always tap the footbrake (rear wheel brake) to let the car behind know I was slowing down through the gears.
4
@Mezmorizorz he's really just criticising them for this specific application.
3
@Irich1961 because you're a nerd. Or because you aren't. Not sure...
3
This is an effective application of Peltier coolers as generators.
2
@lStephen99 it helps if you took notice in your science class at school.
2
That's what I thought...
2
@southerncharity7928 but he did say that lower power cooking has advamtages...
2
Yep!
2
"Contactor" is the engineering term for a relay.
2
My only objection is to calling it a "dumb" device. It is actually quite smart, so a "smart light switch" might be a better description.
2
I doubt it.

@mikafoxx2717 the amount of insulation makes the most difference unless the compressor is faulty.
1
It's nice to know your car can't electrocute you...
1
You mean copied...
1
At least two reasons. 1. No modifications to the building required. Most new buildings have sliding windows so window mounting is impossible, and an eyesore. 2. From my experience in temperate Sydney Australia, bedrooms really need good ventilation, particularly in high humidity summer. 100% ventilation is actually a plus!

Light me up, Imagen!

I don't drive an EV, but even just with my Corolla, when I'm dropping a gear to turn off the main road, it concerns me that the brake lights don't come on unless and until I use the brakes just as I'm turning. It seems to me that a brake light driven off an accelerometer would be an excellent backup to the brake pedal switch!
1
Power supply probably crapped out.
1
@Supraboyes not quite...
1
@Jacqthepossposs so why have Tesla started making their superchargers available to others manufacturers?
1
@Ham24brand not the same, but equally complex.
1
sounds like either the cooling effect or self-heating is non-linear so look for the highest efficiency region and operate there...
1
@busimagen sounds good!
1
@reaganharder1480 and the fact that in space, the cold side could drop to a few kelvins...
1
@dizzylilthing I don't see why not!
1
Wow. So that's a hint about how to improve efficiency!
1
Panasonic flat plate inverter microwaves. I wouldn't buy anything else.
1
@tripplefives I want a dpdt wench... please?
1
@davorinzuerich beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
1
From my experience in the Philippines, which uses similarly designed plugs, pins and spacings, but with a 220V supply voltage(!), most are manufactured in China where standards seem quite low, and I noticed that plugs both with and without holes were equally common.
1
I wonder if layering two would improve performance?
1
@thunderusnight sounds like a great life!
1
@bcubed72 me too!
1
So you can imagine the kick back this would receive from the oil companies... They will move heaven and earth to stop it.
1
@TheAussieRepairGuy * Control, not regulation, which implies high power electronics involved...
1
Yes, worth searching for the Holy Grail!
