Franks and Saxons two large Teutonic tribes along the Rhine and Weser, even though they both shared so much in common they never really liked each other. Things only got worse as the Franks became Roman Catholic and defenders of that faith, no longer adherents of the old gods. By the time of the Saxon Wars, the Franks viewed the pagan Saxons not as 'bruders' but backward heathen raiders.
