  1. Nope. I do not believe NATO could have stop a massive armoured attack by Soviet and Warsaw Pact forces in 1980. There was a crisis of confidence in the US military post Vietnam war, it was the malaise era and Jimmy Carter was President who was perceived as weak assed. There was not enough M1 Abrams built and the main tank to try stop the East bloc tanks was the British Chieftain. Trust me NATO would have been defeated, even then I was a 11 year old and I knew this.
