You know for some reason, experimental aircraft with jet intakes above on the fuselage tend to perform well in testing. Would have made a fine high altitude interceptor.

I want it to come back! There should be two versions , one for USAF as high speed stealth interceptor, one for USN as a Grummanized two seat naval superiority fighter.

The Northrop Grumman YF-23 would never have been selected by the USAF because of cost overrun issues with the B2 program and other problems with the Pentagon. The fly off where the YF-22 demonstrated unexpected air combat maneuvers sealed the deal for the USAF.

I still don't consider the 'bug' a naval air superiority fighter and I never really warmed to it. However I have to give credit where credit is due, the Hornet is a highly capable and potent combat aircraft that have proven its worth over the years. The Super Hornet is even more powerful performing many tasks with ease of maintenance. I still think the USN needs a fast two seat air superiority fighter.

Would the B-21 be classified as a medium bomber?

If it were up to me I would have selected both aircraft with the F-22 getting initial production and the F-23 going through further testing then deployed as a high speed interceptor with a high altitude tactical recon variant and a two seat strike variant.

Yes. Ask the Israelis.

@LRRPFco52 Im a YF-23 fanboy, but I have to agree with you 100%. The YF-23 twins were too advanced for era and not fully ready for deployment without significant modifications and upgrades. With China pushing themselves as a global threat, the time is now for the F-23 to complement USAF and USN air combat capabilities with present day and near future technologies.

I like all of their military aircraft and prototypes!

The F-14 had a mystique going back before Top Gun, the movie only magnified its greatness even more. The thing with the Tom Cat wasn't it's darned good looks, but it's BVR systems with the Phoenix missile which was a highly capable weapon. Now combine those with well trained and motivated Navy pilots and you have a lethal naval fighter.
