@davidvanderklauw It's simpler than we're told: Monopolies have the power to set prices. Anti-monopoly antitrust laws went unenforced from 1981 to 2021. In that time, nearly every industry became dominated by only 2 or 3 players, and they collude to fix the prices of nearly everything we buy (and everything those companies buy). As Yves Smith of Naked Capitalism puts it, "Prices go up because companies raise them."

@davidvanderklauw Yep. A true free market wouldn't give a massive tax advantage to businesses that use money to make money, rather than producing something useful. Like, say, insurance companies.
