@christianx2k From Toyota's own viewpoint, though, RWD wouldn't "simplify" the ES, it'd kill it. The ES lived while the GS died because its humble Camry/Avalon bones give it a price advantage of over $10,000. In the end, Americans weren't willing to pay that tax for superior handling.

SUVs are the present and the future. Already, the 2 top US Lexus sellers are the NX and the RX. The product dealers were clamoring for isn't an LS replacement, it's the TX.
3
I gather this is some sort of political comment, but I have no idea on earth what it means.
3
Alas, it won't be. The ES succeeds where the GS failed because the cheaper Camry/Avalon bones of the ES give it a massive cost/price advantage the RWD-based GS didn't have. Ultimately, Americans weren't willing to pay for superior engineering and handling.

The Crown is not selling. My personal guess is that they'll replace the LS with something similar to the Crown Signia—in other words, a crossover. That's what the people want now.
2
Well, they've already had a black-on-black interior option with black monochrome wood for the ES for several years, so you may end up disappointed.

@Lucas-wp2ph Depends on what you mean by "electric cars." They can't make their hybrids fast enough.

@blossoms978 The LS hasn't been cut AFAIK, but sometime soon it almost certainly wil be. The death of sedans and the fatally flawed design of this generation have conspired to kill its sales to the point where they can't justify the development and tooling costs anymore.

Yeah, it's sad that this will be the last gas LS. Rumor has it Akio Toyoda personally screwed up this one, undecided between its luxury heritage and a diluted Panamera.
1
It absolutely was an issue. The Avalon was extincted by it.
1
@EO1025 Yes, the Crown Signia is a wagon. Which is why I agree with your suggestion to slightly lower it.
1
I agree about the ES, with the asterisk that they used easiiy damaged cheap vinyl on the passenger dash and the sides of the console. I'd expectt the next ES interior to be much like the current RX and Crown Signia, which to my eyes will not be an upgrade. And nothing will save the LS. It will die.
1
You're probably in luck, depending on your definition of "sports." They'll probably have a version that uses the top Crown powertrain, which is powerful at least.
1
Then you've already been overlooking the ES for over 30 years, and I doubt they've missed you.
1
Wash those thumbs immediately! :. D
1
That doesn't explain why Mazda had to drop its midsize near-luxury sedan the Mazda6 Signature because of poor US sales.
1
Look away, then.
1
Not sure what you're referencing, but the ES is the runaway best seller in the US in its class.
1
Other than the Germans and Genesis G80, there aren't any other gas-engine luxury midrange sedans left.
1
That's nice, but why did you feel the need to post this in a news story about a gas-engined Lexus sedan? Are you posting the same comment on every review of a German midsize luxury car?
