@Doomzdayxx This engine is proven. It’s not new. It’s better than the V6. More power with more torque at a lower rpm. The engine doesn’t need to work as hard. Better on fuel too.

@mjwbulich GM and Ford 4 cylinder, I would stay away. Toyota is a master at 4 cylinder. Toyota does brutal testing in their engines. Toyotas issues are differentials and rust.
5
Nah. These will be built to last. It’s quite simple technology. Toyota has been making 4 cylinder engines last for half million miles for a long time.
5
@mitchellbroaddus9120 Now if Toyota built a straight 6 turbo, it would be the best engine ever. They still have the best straight 6 ever built. The 2JZ. It’s a tuners dream engine for massive power up to 2000hp. It’s old tech, but still works amazing. Toyota should have revised that back. Toyota would have the most iconic truck engines ever.
4
In a few years, the market will be overloaded with used V6 Tacomas at a deep discount. This new truck will become a huge seller.

@donm2255 All vehicles have wires and hoses. The V6 was same. I take it you’ve never worked on engines. Now you have less moving parts. One head instead of two. One head gasket instead of two. Four pistons and rods instead of six. Only one head of moving parts instead of two, so timing chain is less stressful. Smaller engines means, more room.
4
@glow4417 so you are saying they shouldn’t tow with a truck? Maybe they shouldn’t have put it into 4x4 neither. It’s a work truck. It should have never broke that easy. It’s built to tow and built to use 4x4. Toyota is trying to figure out issue and issue a recall.

Toyotas V6 was never good for power and torque. It was a slug. Nobody will miss it.
3
@mitchellbroaddus9120 I’ve been working on engines for 36 years. Lexus has been using this engine for years. So it’s not entirely new. Toyota makes reliable engines. Even crappy Kia and Hyundais go over 250k miles. So I expect Toyota to double that. As long as engine is built for Turbo, it should last with ease. It’s basic technology these days.
3
@mitchellbroaddus9120 Toyota should have done a straight 6 turbo in the Tundra instead of a V6. Would have lasted 10 times longer. Inline engines last longer as they are more balanced. Dodge just went straight 6 Turbos after they ditched all the V8’s. Best move for reliability and massive power gains over a NA V8.

@sinister184 Best auto workers are not US. It’s Japan and Germany. German cars are overbuilt like tanks. All protected do they don’t rust. US and Mexico are the same.
2
@adamsteele6148 What turbo have you owned that you had issues with?
2
@naveenthemachine B58 is Toyotas best engine that they don’t build. B58 is built for heavy abuse. Definitely bMWs game changer engine. BMW has X5 in top 10 consumer reports now. That B58 is why. M340 and 240 is a hot seller for BMW now. Best sedan to buy under 70k.
2
Why wouldn’t it? I’ve seen many turbo cars go 300k. Beat hard too. The longest lasting engines with the highest miles in the world are all turbos. Every trailer truck on the road. A straight 6 turbo with turbos that are massive. Low maintenance and built for hard work.
2
@willytrouble88 Wrong.
2
@mitchellbroaddus9120 It’s still a massive turbo. Turbo technology has come a long way. Engines these days are built ground up for boost. Engines built years ago were not entirely built for turbos. They now have stronger internals, larger cooling jackets, ultra strong head gaskets designed for boost and heat. It’s actually quite simple to built these. Maintenance is no different. Makes more sense power and torque at low rpm. Engines work less as turbo does all the work. Turbo failures are very rare these days. Turbo technology is amazing these days. It’s also easy. It’s a casing with a propeller and an ultra long lasting bearing. Nothing to it.
2
They all just got recalled. Loose nuts and rear differential. Parts won’t be available till November.
2
Still made in Mexico.

jeanclaude7018 Anything can break. Nothing last forever. I see Toyotas broken down all the time at the dealership. I always tell people to buy what you like for your needs. If and when it breaks, just fix it and keep enjoying it.
1
jeanclaude7018 It has higher cooling and more durable parts. I built engines for 35 years. You? Kia’s these days are going 300k. I’m sure a better built Toyota will go triple than that.
1
Turbos are not a problem these days. Maybe 20 years ago. Turbo technology is so basic. All you need is a solid head gasket and great cooling. Engines will last long with less stress.
1
@ericfitzsimmons1202 Ford sucks at Turbos. I was a Ford fan until early 2000’s. I would never buy a Ford again. Toyota will make a long lasting turbo. It’s the simplest technology. Germany has been making long lasting turbos for a long time. Toyota copied their success.
1
That’s the full blown TrailHunter. It’s built for you so you don’t have to spend 25k on accessories and labor after you buy a base truck.

@donm2255 I worked on Datsuns in the 80’s and 90’s. The fuel injection were advanced for those days and everyone said they will never last and they will eventually go back to carbs. Well that never happened. Fuel injection was here to stay. So much easier to work on if you know what to do. They lasted 10 times longer. Newer turbo engines are same way. Especially if made by Toyota. Lexus has had this engine for years. It’s been tested.
