Those carbs sucked. This is why fuel injection was a huge game changer in the industry. Even though back then every mechanic was angry because they thought fuel injection was gonna be extremely hard to work on. Years later, they learned it was a huge improvement over carbs. Back then I bought an 82 Datsun/Nissan 200sx (Pre 240sx) and it was fuel injection. I bought it cheep because everyone was scared of how expensive it was to repair due to mechanics spreading nonsense because they were intimidated by it. More of a reason for me to buy them and resell. The Nissan injection engines were amazing back then. We did replace stock Honda carbs with Webbers. So much more refined than Honda carb. This car isn’t worth much because Honda can’t sell it. They are gaining tons of exposure though.

Problem is corrosion inside fuel tank. It needs to be changed, but you won’t find a new one anywhere. So they just made it run with what simple resources they had. This video was about fun content. They also know upset people making comments makes them millions. That’s their end goal. This car will go back to museum and never be driven again probably. It can’t be sold.

It needs a new tank. That was the major problem. New gas just ate at the metal inside and turned to sludge. Remember you can’t find parts. So they worked with what they had. They did it for fun.
3
So you did no repairs at all, but you changed the clutch? You can’t have it both ways 😂 You lost all credibility!

No they weren’t. These were throw away cars. It was a 5k car for 5 years. Only 70hp. 90’s was much better than 80’s. All 80’s cars were crap, unless it was a 911.

@djsi38t It’s because they need to change gas tank, lines, hoses, etc. you can’t find new parts for this. This is why Honda can’t sell it to public. These were known as throw away cars. Cheap metal and parts that corroded and fell apart. So they are gonna make with what they have and give good content while having fun and make money doing it. It’s just a cheap Honda.

Remember these old cars had cheap metal gas tanks. Gasoline corroded them. So when they added new gas, it started to eat at metal inside. Then new corrosion clogs carb again. Everything back then was just bad design with horrible materials. It was all about quick and cheap builds back then. These were throw away cars. This car back then was probably 6k new. Wages were $4 and up. Gas prices were .89. Rents were 400 month. I know everyone says it’s too bad they don’t build them like this anymore, don’t know anything about cars. Things built these days are amazing. These old cars were falling apart in 5 years. Cars built these days will last 30 years if well kept. Computers, fuel injection management, sensors, materials, suspension, braking, etc. are the best technology improvements we’ve had. Took engineers almost 100 years to get it right. Tons of trial and errors. Economic and technology resources held the market back for decades.

Simple? These cars were nightmares. Terrible carbs. Fuel tanks that rusted on inside. Engines that loved to overheat. New cars built these days are so simple and last 10 times longer. I can tell you were never a mechanic since 80’s like I was. Old cars were the worst built and designed. Worst materials too.

@erickricharson5196 This car is not built better than anything built these days. You clearly never worked on cars. This is something simple people who can’t afford new cars say. I’ve heard it thousands of times. Thats why I laugh every time I hear it. 80’s and 90’s cars were throw away cars. They are fun to look at and drive for memories sake. Just wouldn’t want to live with one.

@dankline9162 Trucks have bumpers on them. They also fold up 10 times faster than a car. My friend just hit a Tree with her newer Chevy truck doing 40. She died instantly. Few other car have hit that same tree with less damage and they walked. Trucks fold up. So those steel bumper create a travel pattern for deep inertia travel deep into the driver. Plastic bumpers with crumple bars hidden underneath are designed to impact downward, while saving driver. I was an insurance adjuster for years and seen so many trucks totaled from small accidents. Then see these small cars get hit three times harder with little damage. Tons of people died in old cars. Even the full frame cars crushed so easy. Safety of cars these days is amazing. The only unsafe ones sold today are 4Runner and Wrangler.

This video is only for fun test drive. It will go back and sit at showroom forever. Nobody will drive it after this. Car can’t be sold. So no point in changing parts.

Watch the video. He used one three times.
1
No point. They wanted to keep it with no miles as a show piece for all these decades. Now that car isn’t worth much and can’t be sold, this is all about making a fun video.
1
Keep in mind, these were throw away cars. It was a 5k car new.

It’s going back to museum. It can’t be sold to be driven.

Honda all rotted out though.

@the_kombinator Why bother checking belt. They were not gonna replace it anyway. It was about getting it running while making content and having fun doing so. It’s not like someone will be driving this around. It can’t be sold.

Real car guys buy Porsches!

They were not bulletproof.

Dealer add ons are terrible. Everything should be done at factory. No car should ever come without AC, mirrors, etc. They only did it so manufacturing was cheap. They had to cut cost. They let dealer make the extra money. They still sell the part anyway.
1
I’m sure they know that. Problem is old sensor won’t kick fans on to cool it. Bad technology back then. On hot summer days, temps would climb in these. You had to crank heat up to drain it from engine. So glad they don’t build them like this anymore.

Very cool car!
1
They are not gonna hurt anything. It’s just a car that will sit forever anyway. Can’t be sold.

Gas tank needs to be replaced, along with all lines and hoses. All the metals on the cars corroded with gas. New gas just keeps deteriorating metal, while sending it to carb. Thats why these old cars will never be worth a lot. Another reason why they can’t sell it. It’s a huge hazard.
